If you've wondered who's behind the Lewis & Clark Ranch land deal in West Richland, it's Amazon. Amazon Web Services confirmed Monday that it's the actual buyer in the $264 million purchase of nearly 1,000 acres from the estate of Frank Tiegs. Trammell Crow Co. made the July purchase, and AWS said such arrangements are standard.
Three buildings come first. The city said Amazon estimates that phase would add 120 to 150 full-time jobs and bring in millions of dollars in local taxes. Tri-City Development Council officials said the full campus could mean 21 buildings and more than 1,000 full-time jobs. No permit applications have been filed, and state environmental reviews haven't begun, an Amazon spokesperson stressed.
- Open house: Nov. 19, 5 to 8 p.m., 5200 Paradise Way
- Cooling: outside air 93% of the time, Amazon says
- Water source: treated surface water, not local wells
