- ➤ The Senske Holiday Light Show was canceled as the Tri-Cities call center on Quay Avenue closed and operations shifted to a Texas call center—ending a cherished local tradition. - ➤ A study found that Black adults in food deserts had lower blood pressure and lower bad cholesterol after 12 weeks of home-delivered DASH groceries with nutrition advice. - ➤ A study published on Nov. 13 found that overweight and obese young adults aged 17 to 22 who ate more fast food, packaged snacks, and heat-and-eat meals had a higher risk for prediabetes and insulin resistance — every 10% increase in ultra-processed food led to a 64% higher risk of prediabetes and a 56% rise in blood sugar problems. Researchers tracked 85 participants over four years to show that even modest increases in processed foods can disrupt blood sugar regulation. FOX41 Yakima
- ➤ After nine months of renovation and a $1.2M investment, the Red Cross has consolidated its blood donation and humanitarian services into the building at 7202 W. Deschutes Ave. in Kennewick—replacing its former center in Richland. - ➤ A new study found that patients who received personalized prehabilitation coaching before major surgery improved their fitness and had fewer complications—researchers noted changes in immune response that lowered post-surgery infection risk.
