  • Benton County deputies in Kennewick warned that Halloween on Friday will bring heavier traffic and increased risk for children after 8 p.m.—drivers should slow down and use extra caution near trick-or-treaters.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Tri-Cities Food Bank in Kennewick is preparing for the impending SNAP deadline as food stamp funds end this week and demand for food rises. Executive director VJ Meadows said the organization is calling on community support — with volunteers already reaching out — to help those in need at its branches in Richland, Benton City, and Kennewick.  FOX41 Yakima

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study by Bank of America showed that people paid 37% more for natural gas in the third quarter, & the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that electricity prices jumped 51% due to growing data centers, a trend that may soon raise local utility bills.  FOX41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new flight to Hollywood Burbank arrived at Tri-Cities Airport yesterday even as local workers continued to work without pay because of the federal shutdown—airport operations moved forward despite the ongoing funding issues.  Apple Valley News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kadlec Clinic Bridge Care in the Corrado Building on Kadlec's main campus is now open to help patients secure follow-up care after hospital or emergency room discharge, offering both in-person and virtual appointments Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Updated guidelines by the American Heart Association said that if someone is choking they should receive five back blows and five abdominal thrusts and infants should get five back blows and five chest thrusts. The guidelines, released yesterday with the help of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), also advise using naloxone for opioid overdoses and delaying newborn cord clamping for at least 60 seconds to improve blood health.  FOX41 Yakima

  • Many people are planning to save money on Halloween by repurposing old clothes and finding thrift store treasures—shoppers will add low-cost accessories from discount shops to complete their costumes—this approach helps them stay festive without breaking the bank.  FOX41 Yakima

  • Eastern Washington ski resorts are set to open later in November; 49 Degrees North and Mission Ridge will open on November 22, Mt. Spokane on November 28, and local Ski Bluewood will open on November 29 while White Pass may open on November 21 — all dates are tentative and depend on weather and snow cover.  KONA
