COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The YMCA will host a Trick-or-Treat on the Trail event tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in Trailhead Park—featuring stations for face painting, photo booths, and Halloween games—and walk-up registration is available at 525 Queensgate Dr.  KEPR
  • Chrystal Curiel won the Mid-Columbia Duck Race when her duck finished first—she received a brand new 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross from Tri-cities of Toyota. She works at CBRC Health and Fitness and said she will take her kids to McDonald’s to celebrate the win.  KEPR
  • On October 16, a Benton County Fire District One crew along with a Kennewick medic delivered baby Clara in their ambulance when McKenzie and Armin could not reach the hospital—she is the first girl in Armin’s family in 105 years.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Whopper is an 8.5-month-old tabby at Tri-Cities Animal Services in Pasco who was found behind Court Street Burger King on October 10 and has since recovered from facial trauma. He will soon be neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated and is available for adoption today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a $50 fee.  KFLD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The first Crispy Cones in Washington has opened at 6605 Burden Boulevard in Pasco. Owners Glenn & Vallari Royer, who secured a deal on Shark Tank with Barbara Corcoran, serve a warm, soft dough cone filled with ice cream & toppings and the shop is open daily from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.  KEPR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Kennewick Irrigation District told agricultural users that water is being cut amid severe drought in the Yakima Basin — orders from the Department of Ecology took effect October 6, will expire October 31, and came after reservoir levels dropped to 7%. The agencies will work together to boost reservoir capacity and educate water users as heavy mountain snowfall is expected to help ease the drought.  KEPR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, work at the George Washington Way Intersection will install underground conduits for a new traffic signal system — temporary lane reductions and street closures will require Columbia Point Drive to close at 5 a.m. Monday. Southbound lanes on George Washington Way will be reduced to one lane on Tuesday morning, and electronic boards will alert drivers to brief delays and advise alternate routes.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Richland is starting roundabout improvements with paving on Trowbridge Boulevard and Ava Way the week of October 27; Ava Way will close between Dallas Road and Gateway Avenue for two to three weeks as crews build a splitter island—drivers are urged to follow detours. Construction will pause due to cold weather and resume early next spring.  NBC Tri-Cities

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, YMCA Tri-Cities is holding a Healthy Halloween event in Richland where local residents can join health-focused activities — the event aims to encourage active living during the season.  Apple Valley News Now
  • A study found that teens with poor sleep on school nights had a higher risk of a later suicide attempt. Researchers tracked over 8,500 youths and found that sleep problems at 14 raised suicide risk at 17—experts say that helping teens sleep better may lower their risk.  FOX41 Yakima

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Supermarkets have set up spooky displays for Halloween that give shoppers candy mountains, moving skeletons — and a talking witch at the doors. The setups use bright lights and sound effects that turn grocery trips into mini events for local families.  FOX41 Yakima
