- ➤ Catholic Charities PREPARES program provides essential baby supplies to families in need from pregnancy until age five and has served over 3,000 families in the past year. Program manager Sydnee Salceda Caravazos said nearly 18% of Washington families struggle with diaper insecurity and donations may be dropped off at the Kennewick office + 807 West Vineyard St. KEPR
- ➤ Tonight, Hops N' Drops in Richland will donate 20% of every bill from 5–9 p.m. to support the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter. The funds will pay for extra care (such as emergency medical help and shelter upgrades) that go beyond the city budget. KFLD

- ➤ In Washington, drivers may only use a tow truck ramp if they are the vehicle being towed and have permission from the operator—unauthorized use can lead to reckless driving or criminal mischief charges. KONA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Not One Drop of Blood is a new documentary that examines decades of mysterious cattle mutilations in eastern Oregon. It premieres tonight at Fairchild Cinemas Queensgate at 7:00 and 7:30 p.m.—a Q&A with the filmmakers will follow to discuss the ongoing investigation by the Harney County Sheriff's Office. - ➤ An assistant basketball coach at Hanford High School resigned after an alleged involvement in a February brawl during a game against Pasco High School — he said the incident caused emotional trauma to his family. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ National School Bus Safety Week promotes safe stops for school buses as law enforcement reminds drivers to stop when buses flash lights and show extended stop signs (39 million illegal passes occur every year) and urges all motorists to follow traffic rules (it is the law). - ➤ The Washington DNR said that while more fires occurred this season with over 250,000 acres burned, staggered resources helped prevent many from growing large—an incoming atmospheric river will bring rain and mountain snow to end wildfire season by the weekend. KEPR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kennewick Irrigation District appealed the state Department of Ecology's water curtailment order issued on October 3—saying the restrictions are overly broad and threaten the long-term water supply for its 26,000 customers. The district said it will work with state and federal agencies to address drought challenges. FOX41 Yakima
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Washington State Health has launched a new measles exposure tracker that shows potential exposure sites, including a confirmed case at Sea-Tac Airport on October 13th. The tool compiles data from local health departments so residents can check if they were exposed and get vaccinated if needed. The KEY
- ➤ Research presented on Oct. 21 showed that women who started estrogen therapy during perimenopause at least 10 years before their periods stopped had 60% lower odds of breast cancer, heart attack and stroke than women who never took hormones. Those who waited until after menopause had a slightly lower risk for some conditions but experienced a 4.9% higher chance of stroke — experts say more clinical studies are needed. FOX41 Yakima
