Good morning, Richland.

After decades of planning and construction, the Hanford Vitrification Plant began operation yesterday—starting a key process to transform nuclear waste into glass for safer storage.

The new facility is expected to process over 5,300 gallons of tank waste each day as part of the ongoing cleanup at Hanford.

This October, Washington ranked third nationally for energy efficiency in both homes and transportation—showing strong performance compared to other states.

Today, sirens near the Hanford Nuclear Reservation will sound from 10 a.m. until noon to test the emergency alert system for local residents, with audio messages marking each round & an EAS activation at 10:16 a.m. to ensure the system is working properly.
