BUSINESS NEWS

  • Towlos is a peer-to-peer platform that helps owners rent out trailers such as car haulers, boat trailers and ATV trailers, and it reached 1,000 active listings by October 1. The company will add a mobile app and insurance options in early 2026 — offering a flat $10 service fee per rental.  FOX41 Yakima
  • The Port of Pasco agreed at a special meeting on September 29th to buy 320 acres to expand the Reimann Industrial Area as its growth has exceeded the original 300-acre plan. The port will work with Balcom and Moe Ag—after selling 150 acres to Darigold and 82 acres to other firms—to support planned projects from LTI Inc. and Cold Summit.  KFLD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Labor and Industries announced on Tuesday, September 30 that Washington’s minimum wage will rise 2.8% from $16.66 to $17.13 on January 1. Local business owners may face worker hour consolidation and hiring freezes—changes that will continue until the wage threshold is adjusted in 2028.  KFLD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington and 19 states joined a lawsuit against the DOJ to block a new rule set to cut federal funding for victim services for undocumented immigrants. Attorney General Nick Brown said the rule is unconstitutional and would force legal aid groups to act like immigration agents — a move that may silence victims.  FOX41 Yakima
  • Attorneys general from 20 states, including Washington and Oregon, filed a lawsuit on October 1 to block a Justice Department rule that limits federal funding for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors—this rule stops states from offering services to those who cannot quickly verify their immigration status.  FOX41 Yakima

HEALTH NEWS

  • New research published on Oct. 1 shows that shift workers face a higher risk of kidney stones—night shift workers have a 22% higher chance than those working 9-to-5. Experts say shift workers should drink plenty of water and adopt healthier habits—like better sleep, exercise, and weight management—to reduce that risk.  FOX41 Yakima
  • Researchers reported that sleep apnea patients in areas with heavy air pollution had more episodes of reduced or stopped breathing—each one-unit increase in PM10 brought 0.41 more events per hour, suggesting higher risks for those affected.  FOX41 Yakima
