  • Today, the 23rd annual Hometown Food Drive has begun with McCurley Honda + Yoke's Fresh Market calling on local donors to contribute through $10 food bags and non-perishable food drop-offs, and the event aims to collect 2 million pounds by October 31.  KEPR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Washington’s new tax package passed last spring will raise digital advertising costs about 10% and present steep compliance challenges for small businesses. Comcast has filed a lawsuit against the state & some experts worry the rules could drive advertisers to seek lower costs in markets like Idaho.  KONA
  • Business owners must prepare for another minimum wage hike on January 1 as Labor and Industries announced a 2.8 percent raise from $16.66 to $17.13 per hour—this increase may lead to worker hour consolidation and possible hiring freezes.  The KEY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ferguson paused deleting Microsoft Teams messages for state agencies, and the six-month suspension ended on August 17 without a new update. Open government advocates say the unclear policy could hurt transparency — they urge lawmakers to act to keep public records safe.  KONA
  • On Sept. 30, the Department of Labor and Industries announced that Washington's minimum wage will increase by 47 cents—2.8%—to reach $17.13 starting Jan. 1 as employers adjust to rising costs.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Pat Hale, a longtime state senator who championed small business and public safety, changed the 8th District after winning in 1994 and left in 2004 when she was appointed to lead national small business efforts—she is remembered by local leaders for her service.   • Today, researchers say that radiation therapy treats fast heart rhythms as well as catheter ablation. The study found that patients who received radiation had fewer side effects and no treatment-related deaths—showing it may be a safer option for high-risk patients.  FOX41 Yakima
