  • The 8th annual Adam West Day was celebrated over the weekend at Kirkman House where fans gathered to view an exhibit featuring a replica Batmobile + memorabilia from his 88 years. Visitors enjoyed a scavenger hunt, costume contest and the lighting of a bat signal as the event honored West’s legacy with personal photos and behind-the-scenes displays.  KEPR

  • Cider sales are rising as drinkers look beyond beer this fall—with Washington apple growers reporting bumper harvests that fuel new flavor experiments. Market experts predict the global cider market will expand significantly in the coming years as local craft beverage fans enjoy the growing variety.  FOX41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists from the University of Colorado warned that dragonflies, which survived asteroids, are now in danger from wildfires and climate change that disrupt their mating and cooling from heat—factors that may lead to fewer dragonflies. They analyzed 40 years of data and said these changes could harm food webs across local areas.  FOX41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Richland leaders announced the city will end the $20 car tab fee and replace it with a 0.1% sales tax—about a penny on every $10 purchase—to help fund road repairs as early as the new year while city needs exceed $4.5 million annually.  KEPR

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study from King’s College London found that people who follow a Mediterranean diet have lower gum disease risk and less inflammation—red meat raised that risk by 2.7 times among 195 dental patients.  FOX41 Yakima
  • A study published on Sept. 22 found that people with two or more tattoo sessions had a lower risk of melanoma than those with only one session, and those who got a tattoo before age 20 had even lower risks — experts stress that using sunscreen remains important to protect skin. The research compared melanoma cases with healthy individuals to suggest that careful skin care and possibly the tattoo ink itself may help lower cancer risk.  FOX41 Yakima
