- ➤ The 49th Annual Sausage Festival hosted by Christ the King School will return to Richland on Friday — residents will enjoy traditional sausage offerings and local festivities. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Middleton Farms in Pasco will open its LEGO-themed corn maze on September 20 during the Sunflower Festival—families can also enjoy a new build activity zone and LEGO Days from October 22 to 26. FOX41 Yakima
- ➤ A large crowd gathered on Queensgate Drive in Richland for a vigil to honor Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated at Utah Valley University last week. Residents filled Sterling's parking lot and honked in support—organizers said the turnout far exceeded expectations. KONA
- ➤ City and transportation officials in Richland warned that travelers near State Route 240 should expect delays on Sunday, September 21, when the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon starts early and lasts into the afternoon—key roads will see heavy traffic from 6 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. The race features a swim from Howard Amon Park, a 56-mile bike ride across Richland and West Richland, and a 13-mile run along Columbia River trails ending at Columbia Point Park. - ➤ Washington voters are upset with high taxes as a poll showed 77% feel taxes are too high when a record $9 billion tax increase was passed and will be phased in through 2026—rising gas prices following a recent six-cent increase add to the state’s cost concerns. - ➤ Four students from Richland School District—Emma Yuan of Hanford High and Cameron Hornell, Victor Petyuk, and Dylan Trigg of Richland High—were named National Merit Semifinalists for the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program after ranking in the top 1% on the PSAT/NMSQT; finalists will be announced in spring. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Energy approved moving radioactive waste into the Hanford DFLAW facility for vitrification starting October 15, per Sen. Patty Murray. Workers already transferred 430,000 gallons from an old single-shell tank to a new double-shell tank as cleanup continues—Gov. Bob Ferguson warned the state will sue if the deadline is missed. - ➤ Tim Eyman drove over 200 miles Monday to challenge Pasco's plan to add a $20 car tab fee or a 0.1% sales tax increase without voter input—he accused the council of secret meetings and delayed public comments. Two residents also testified against the idea while city staff explained that the fee and tax would raise about $1.3 million and $2.3 million each year. KONA
