- ➤ On September 16, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony at McDaniel Arena—part of Benton Franklin Fair upgrades that will double seating from 3,000 to 6,000 and update restrooms and public access. The $12 million project is set to be finished by July and follows $3 million in parking lot improvements completed in July. NBC Tri-Cities

- ➤ Richland hosted the Cool Desert Nights event in late June that drew 10,000 to 12,000 visitors and generated nearly $1.85M in spending from hotels, restaurants and vendors—boosting local businesses. The event was hosted by the Richland Chamber of Commerce and the city and featured a cruise, park party, live music and other activities. FOX41 Yakima
- ➤ Washington drivers now pay an average of $4.66 per gallon due to a new carbon tax adding six cents and recent pipeline problems—making it the highest gas price in the nation. AAA said that falling demand and the shift to winter-blend gasoline will help lower prices later. The KEY

- ➤ Today, The Reach Museum invites homeschool families to join Homeschool Night at 4:00 p.m.—they can explore interactive exhibits, learn about education programs, and meet local organizations. - ➤ Yesterday, Richland High School volleyball built a strong team culture as players and coaches focused on teamwork and regular practice — efforts that will boost performance in upcoming matches. The new approach is expected to help the team succeed this season. Apple Valley News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Manager Jon Amundson presented a plan on September 16 to replace the $20 car tab fee with a 0.1% sales tax — a proposal that would raise Transportation Benefit District revenue to about $2.25 million annually — and the council is expected to direct staff to draft an ordinance to ease reliance on other funds for road maintenance. - ➤ Officials warn residents that work on the Dallas Road Roundabouts Project will begin tomorrow on Trowbridge Boulevard, reopening it on September 19 while closing part of Dallas Road from Trowbridge to Ava Way — traffic will be detoured to Gateway Avenue. The Ironman Triathlon will use the detour for its bicycle race on September 21 — flaggers will let cars pass when no cyclists are present. Apple Valley News Now
