COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual Iron Man Triathlon will take place on September 19 and needs 1,300 volunteers but only 910 have signed up. Shifts start at 4 a.m.—they last four hours and include meals, and volunteer sign-up will close on September 17.  KEPR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KSD is reviewing a social media comment made by a Chinook Middle School educator who quoted Mark Twain after Charlie Kirk was murdered — many parents reported the comment on Facebook. The district said it will follow its rules to determine if any staff did wrong.  The KEY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The annual Discover Pass will rise to $45 on October 1—giving access to over 100 state parks and many recreation sites—and the revenue will fund trail upkeep and facility improvements.  The KEY
  • Starting October 1, the annual Discover Pass will cost $45 and gives access to more than 100 state parks, 350 recreation sites, and other outdoor areas — the revenue will fund improvements and maintenance while free access days are scheduled in the coming months.  KFLD
  • Voters in Richland may soon decide to change how their city council is elected after the League of Women Voters held a forum to discuss replacing the at-large system with five district-elected members and two at large. Polly Parton said district elections may offer better local representation — though they could also foster division—and if the initiative passes in November, a special vote will be held in February.  Apple Valley News Now
