  • Doug Tallman from Amethyst Creamery is facing serious health issues and lost his partner—he must take two months off work to treat kidney cancer and eye problems. His local community has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover his medical bills, living expenses, and costs to keep the creamery running until he can return.  The KEY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Makita recalled over 60,000 cordless grease guns and hoses after the Consumer Product Safety Commission found that a flexible hose may develop a hole during use—causing grease to fly and posing a risk of cuts. Consumers were advised to stop using the products and contact Makita for a free replacement, and while five injuries were reported worldwide, none occurred in the U.S.  FOX41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • According to the Bureau of Relamation’s September water forecast, senior water rights will receive full entitlements while junior water rights will get 40% plus Yakima basin reservoirs stood at 20% full with 218,000 acre-feet recorded on Sept 1. The report shows August precipitation was 3.45 inches, which is 109% of average and overall precipitation from October to August was 77% of average.  The KEY

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Sept. 4, the governors of California, Oregon and Washington announced a new West Coast Health Alliance that will offer independent vaccine recommendations separate from CDC guidelines— they plan to use evidence-based input from trusted scientists to ensure clear, credible information on vaccine safety and efficacy. The alliance will coordinate its guidance to help residents make informed health decisions.  FOX41 Yakima
  • A new study shows today that breast milk hormone levels change during the day so that milk pumped in the morning and fed later may disturb baby sleep (researchers advise moms to label milk and feed it at the same time it was collected) to keep natural signals intact.  FOX41 Yakima
