Good morning, Richland.

The Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation has launched the Yakama Strong campaign to share tribal heritage through a documentary, videos, a website and displays at Tri-Cities Airport — the project was developed with tribal elders and leaders to explain the tribe’s lasting cultural influence.

The Corps of Engineers granted a five-year construction license to the Benton Conservation District for a $1.2M project that will improve fish habitats at the Yakima River.

The project will reroute about 1,400 feet of Amon Creek channel to join a deeper pool and install a low-flow deflector—native vegetation will be planted as work begins in winter 2026 and finishes by spring 2027.

Construction to improve the South George Washington Way in Richland will begin September 2 when the parking lane to Benham Street at the busy intersection with Aaron Drive—Columbia Point Drive is closed, city manager Jon Amundson said.

The project will be completed by late November.
