  • West Richland mayoral candidate May Hays, 69, was arrested on August 22 for DUI and released on August 23 after posting a $1,000 bond—she said a tire blew while she was returning from a friend's visit, prompting an officer to notice she had been drinking.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Effective Tuesday, September 2, contractor Ellison Earthworks will begin construction on the west side of George Washington Way near the busy intersection with Aaron Drive to ease rush hour congestion and improve road safety—motorists should expect lane closures, limited on-street parking, and a permanently removed parking lane to Benham Street until the project is completed in November.  The KEY
  • Richland will begin work on South George Washington Way on September 2 with the closure of the parking lane to Benham Street at a busy intersection — this project follows years of planning to create safer travel and is set to finish by late November.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Ray Geimer, a former professional engineer with 40 years of nuclear cleanup experience, will become manager of the Hanford Field Office for the DOE on Sept. 7—he has led over 300 staff at the 222-S Laboratory and managed an $80 million budget.
