COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Deputy Forsberg rescued a struggling deer from a canal in Prosser today—he used his roping skills to pull the animal from the water, and it is now resting safely.  KFLD

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Benton County firefighters contained a shed fire near east Bryson Brown Road in Finley at about 4:55 a.m. on August 23—propane tanks exploded and flames spread to nearby vegetation until the fire was contained by 5:12 a.m. with crews mopping hot spots for an hour and no injuries reported.  Apple Valley News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pasco Airport is on pace to serve at least 500K travelers by year-end as officials recorded 282,452 enplanements through July—an 8% increase over last year. The airport serves six major carriers and will welcome additional airlines in 2026.  The KEY

CRIME NEWS

  • WalletHub rated Washington as the least safe state by using broad metrics such as traffic deaths and property crime rates, but updated FBI data from August 20th shows the state is not among the most dangerous. The difference comes from WalletHub’s broader safety category+which includes non-crime factors while the FBI focuses on traditional crime statistics.  KFLD

  • The Kennewick Police Department is increasing patrols in school zones this week as students go back to class; officers remind drivers to slow to 20 mph when warning signs flash and advise commuters to plan extra travel time—focusing on child safety near busy streets.  Apple Valley News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Healthy Ages, a long-standing program for seniors run since 1981, will move to Senior Life Resources Northwest in September as Kadlec shifts its focus to mental health and support groups. The transition will be completed by September 5 — the program will continue offering Medicare education, mall walking groups and monthly wellness checks.  KEPR
