- ➤ Benton County was named the best place in WA to raise a family by SmartAsset due to its low child care costs and many recreation centers; Franklin County ranked 24th because of fewer community centers + higher child care expenses. The interactive tool compared housing prices, test scores, + child care expenses to guide families on where to settle down. Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Dry conditions contributed to a fire in the median of Interstate 82 near exit 113—south of Kennewick where firefighters arrived around 5:24 p.m. on August 11 and contained the 1.5-acre blaze in about 20 minutes with no injuries reported. Apple Valley News Now
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Tri Cities Regional Chamber of Commerce changed its annual Small Business Resource Fair to an open house format so local business owners could speak with more than 10 vendors on topics like government contracting — security, development, and more. The chamber will continue this format and plans to move to a larger venue for future fairs. Apple Valley News Now
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco saw a six percent rise in travelers this past quarter as about 121,000 people passed through—crediting the increase to strong passenger support after the pandemic. The airport had celebrated record numbers in 2024. NBC Tri-Cities
- ➤ CNBC data shows WA has fallen out of the top ten business friendly states as it dropped 12 spots since 2022+weak business cost measures, poor infrastructure, and unfriendly policies lowered its overall score despite strong marks in economy and quality of life. The rankings reflect a significant change in the state's business environment compared to three years ago. KONA

- ➤ Richland officials said the Dallas Road roundabouts project was put on hold on August 12 because of a labor dispute and will resume once negotiations are resolved. Officials have reopened intersections at Ava Way and Trowbridge Boulevard—further updates will be provided when available. Apple Valley News Now
