Good morning, Richland.

At a July 9 meeting, Pauline Schafer from The Reach Museum introduced a plan to plant a sycamore tree grown from seeds that orbited the moon on NASA’s Artemis 1 mission to honor local astronaut Kayla Barron.

The tree is now in a nursery and will be planted next spring in a park at Howard Amon Park + John Dam Plaza while local residents take part in learning programs to watch its growth.

City council will review the Downtown Loop project at its meeting on July 15 where officials will discuss plans to convert George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue into one-way streets and add bike lanes, wider sidewalks, and improved lighting—milestones include an October public open house, design completion by Dec 31, and spring 2026 construction.
