Good morning, Richland. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 27th of June.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Labor shortages are causing local farmers in Benton and Franklin counties to worry about their crops because many rely on migrant workers to harvest produce and fear raids may reduce the available workforce – calls for H2A reforms are growing to help secure the food supply and protect the local economy. The situation may lead to higher costs for farmers if changes are not made soon.  KFLD

  • Officials from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that starting July 1, restrictions on campfires, target shooting, smoking, welding, chainsaw use, and driving on undeveloped roads will reduce wildfire risks on managed lands in Eastern Washington + these measures are set to protect local communities and wildlife habitat.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Gov. Ferguson said that planned Medicaid cuts could leave 200,000 residents without health care coverage—particularly hurting children who depend on Medicaid—and he warned that a $720 million revenue shortfall will force state agencies to make budget cuts.
