  • Sakti, a one-year-old bully mix with a playful personality, was found outside city limits in January when his finder could not locate his original owners—he is now available for adoption.   • Philadelphia-based Five Below will move into the former Party City space in Queensgate as part of its Tri-Cities expansion — its Richland store has a tentative opening on Oct. 24, though construction delays are possible. The retailer — known for items mostly between $1 and $5 — acquired 44 building leases to support its regional growth.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Residents in Richland are waiting for a new Costco to open in August—this project spans 182,644 square feet and costs over $24 million. The website shows sample job opportunities that are not yet confirmed.  FOX41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County began renovations at the fairgrounds to improve the rodeo arena, parking — and other areas while keeping the historic walkway and mural intact. County officials said $12 million will upgrade the arena to double seating to 6,000 — and invest $3 million for parking improvements.  The KEY
  • Residents in Benton County will soon vote on a levy that raises taxes by 22 cents per $1,000—from $1.28 to $1.50—to fund new firefighters, updated equipment, and facility maintenance—Fire Chief Scott LoParco said this change addresses rising costs and more emergency calls.  FOX41 Yakima
  • On June 25, the USDA State Director of Rural Development met with Franklin County commissioners and residents in Pasco to discuss rural issues—emergency services, water system upgrades and broadband expansion. One resident noted the 70-year-old water system serving 50 homes breaks frequently—officials will use the feedback to guide future funding.  FOX41 Yakima

  • Residents in the TriCities learn that U.S. sunscreens mainly use older filters like zinc oxide because the FDA takes time to approve new ingredients. Studies show European sunscreens use new UV filters such as Tinosorb S and Mexoryl XL — offering stronger protection from harmful rays.  The KEY
