  • Numerica Pavilion in Kennewick will host a free Family Day on July 10 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.—offering face painting, laser tag, a glow-themed interactive arena, giveaways and free shaved ice for the first 700 guests.  FOX41 Yakima

CRIME NEWS

  • At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a crash at a parking lot near the Original Pancake House on 454 Keene Road when a car driven by an unlicensed teen using his father's vehicle struck a minibike and injured the rider's leg — the teen fled but was later located with parental help and taken into custody.  KONA
  • Community members in the Tri Cities area have rallied against the early release hearing for Robert Suarez—convicted of murdering beloved teacher Bob Mars—as the Indeterminate Sentence Review Board scheduled two additional hearings on June 23 for in-person and remote testimony.  The KEY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Port of Benton finished its sixth rail crossing replacement near Horn Rapids Road on June 1 — it was done nearly 12 hours early and now track speeds went from 5 to 10 mph. Sen. Matt Boehnke helped secure an $865,000 grant while the port contributed almost $800,000 in matching funds, and it will work with the City of Richland to replace the last crossing at Steptoe Street later this year.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Columbia Riverkeeper filed a lawsuit on June 17 in federal district court to force DOE to answer its FOIA request for documents on plans to lease 19,000 acres at Hanford for a clean energy initiative—highlighting concerns over DOE’s delay in releasing key records. This action follows a year-long effort by the group to obtain information on potential projects and community impacts.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Columbia Riverkeeper filed a lawsuit on June 16 in U.S. District Court accusing the DOE of failing to meet FOIA requirements for the Hanford cleanup to clean energy initiative. The complaint says the agency did not release documents from a June 2024 request and now has 30 days to respond—raising concerns over transparency in government actions.  FOX41 Yakima
