ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A brush fire in West Richland burned 40 acres of grass and brush last night and forced evacuations that were lifted by 9:00 a.m. today—fire crews monitored for flare-ups and confirmed that no homes were damaged—while local officials advise residents to stay alert.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • A home in Richland lost its roof and had its interior damaged after an early morning fire on June 12 at around 2 a.m. near the corner of Adair Drive and Kranichwood Court — firefighters reported that no injuries occurred.  FOX41 Yakima
  • Early Thursday morning, a fire destroyed several structures on Game Farm Road in Finley—fire crews from Kennewick, Benton County, Pasco and Franklin County responded as the Benton County Sheriff's Office helped evacuate residents while firefighters contained the 15-acre blaze over several hours.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ben Franklin Transit will launch its new Express 2X route from Richland to Pasco on June 16—scheduled from 6 to 9 a.m. and 2 to 6 p.m.—with a curbside stop at Tri-Cities Airport. Officials plan to build a bus shelter in August and expect 20 to 30 airport boardings daily following community requests.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is preparing for layoffs and furloughs for fiscal year 2026 as lab director Steven Ashby announced the steps during a meeting after staff were furloughed in March — the move comes in response to proposed federal budget cuts. U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse and other lawmakers have opposed the cuts as they work to support jobs in the Tri-Cities.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Richland’s Stevens Drive project is more than half finished and will close the intersection of Stevens Drive and Swift Boulevard from 6:00 a.m. on June 20 until 6:00 a.m. on June 23 (detour routes are clearly marked). Access to Kadlec Medical Center remains available via Swift Boulevard and Goethals Drive (this is the first major repair on Stevens Drive in 20 years).  FOX41 Yakima
  • The Benton-Franklin Council of Governments received a $1.2 million EPA grant to support environmental assessments and planning in Richland, Connell and Prosser—this funding is part of a national effort to redevelop brownfields and improve community job prospects and property values.  FOX41 Yakima
