  • Mushroom Fest returns to Richland this weekend — the three-day event runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 6, 7, and 8 and features indoor and outdoor activities, kids games, vendors, food trucks, and live performances hosted by Adventures Underground, which is also celebrating its birthday.  NBC Tri-Cities

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Costco is testing scan and go technology that lets members scan items with the app and show a payment confirmation at checkout at its Richland store. The new service may come to the Richland location later this summer or in early fall (early positive results were shared in May).  KFLD

CRIME NEWS

  • Kayakers found a body in the Columbia River near Mound Pond on May 24, which authorities later identified as Gregory L. Vanhooser, a 40-year-old known to be homeless who often stayed at the Union Gospel Mission in Pasco — an autopsy on May 29 found no evidence of homicide — and further tests are underway as detectives have contacted his next of kin.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Benton County Sheriff's Office identified Gregory L. Vanhooser, a 40-year-old man with ties to Missouri, as the body found by kayakers in the Columbia River near Mound Pond on May 24—an autopsy on May 29 found no evidence of homicide while detectives continue to investigate his last known whereabouts.  FOX41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The state Department of Fish — Wildlife said that salmon fishing season in the Hanford Reach — the stretch of the Columbia River from just below Priest Rapids Dam to Columbia Point — opens June 16 and runs through July 31. Anglers must follow new rules that limit bank fishing to the Richland side from Columbia Point to the I-182 bridge until July 15 and allow fishing between the I-182 bridge and Priest Rapids Dam from July 16 onward.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
