CRIME NEWS

  • A Pasco woman, Ashley Avila, 30, was arrested on May 20 for allegedly stealing about $700,000 from the Pacific Outpost dispensary by using her company card at Wildhorse Casino—she admitted spending $5,000 there and her bail is set at $25,000 ahead of a court appearance on June 3.  FOX41 Yakima

  • Manhattan Project Visitors Center in Richland will launch its new Atomic Explorations program on June 2 with free hour-long sessions running Monday through Thursday and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m.—the sessions will explore the creation and historical impact of the atomic bomb.  FOX41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Washington State Department of Agriculture began its summer search for invasive pests in the Tri-Cities area and is checking for over 130 species, including Japanese Beetles and Apple Maggots — officials urge local residents to report unfamiliar bugs and note that genuine staff wear WSDA vests and IDs. This survey is aimed at early detection of pests that could harm local crops and the region's green spaces.  FOX41 Yakima
  • Spring wildflowers color the hills but experts warn that May rain has turned extra green growth into tinder that could spark wildfires in July—residents are urged to clear brush and trim lawns to lower the risk.  KONA
