CRIME NEWS

  • On May 28, early this morning, Kennewick police reported a BMW jumped a canal after its driver ignored a traffic stop for an equipment violation at around 2:28 a.m., with two occupants fleeing on foot and the vehicle seized as part of the investigation+ authorities continue to search for the suspects.  KFLD
  • Two convicted murderers who killed beloved coach Bob Mars in 2004 are petitioning for early release with one hearing scheduled for July 16 and another set for February next year—local family members and community supporters will voice their concerns during a June 23 review hearing.  KFLD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that wages in the Kennewick-Richland area are higher than the national average. The report suggests that local industry trends may be boosting pay—indicating strong economic activity.  NBC Tri-Cities

  • Richland School District was named the 2025 Hope Holder of the Year by Lutheran Community Services Northwest — the award honors the district’s work to expand student mental health support and strengthen community partnerships.   • A portion of Highway 240 will close at noon today for construction work on railroad crossings between Stevens Drive and Kingsgate Way, with drivers detoured along Stevens Drive, Battelle Boulevard and Kingsgate Way — the road will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, June 2.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • DOE is cold commissioning the Hanford VIT plant by adding chemicals that produce ammonia+nitrous oxide to simulate the reaction of real tank waste. Officials plan to begin vitrification later this year or in the fall to encase the toxic waste in a glassy matrix for safer storage and transport.  The KEY

  • The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will host its annual Tri-Cities Great Strides walk on May 31 at Howard Amon Park in Richland—participants must check in at 9 a.m. and are encouraged to fundraise and invite family, friends and colleagues to join the three-mile event.  FOX41 Yakima
