  • Women pilots and volunteers are gathering today at Richland Airport to sketch an 80-foot compass rose that will help pilots navigate and honor women in aviation—leaders from the Port of Benton and the Mid-Columbia Ninety-Nine Chapter of Women plan to finish the project by the end of the weekend.  KEPR
  • The Tri-Cities region will hold multiple Memorial Weekend observances to honor veterans, with free hot dogs and a parade of flags at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday's events include a service at Riverview Heights Cemetery at 9 a.m., a ceremony at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick at 11 a.m., and a flag-raising at City View Cemetery in Pasco — featuring a talk by veteran retired Major Scotty Smile.  The KEY

  • A man died at a Richland job site on Friday morning when a front-end loader began rolling as he tried to exit the equipment on Epic and Ascend Street—police said medics attempted lifesaving aid but he died at the scene.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Kennewick police are searching for two men after a shooting near West Canal Drive — officers responded at 11:30 p.m. Thursday where two people were struck with no major injuries, and residents are urged to review nearby security footage — police report.  NBC Tri-Cities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington State University Tri-Cities launched a Nursing Bridge program on May 21 for 10 high school students from Tri-Tech Skills Center during an award ceremony at Tri-Tech in Kennewick—this program offers two years of pre-nursing courses plus paid CNA experience at local hospitals before direct admission to the BSN program. The grant-funded initiative aims to expand access to nursing careers and strengthen the local health care workforce.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Bob Ferguson warned on Thursday that federal Medicaid cuts may force 200,000 people off the program and stretch hospital resources. He said the change would affect nearly 2 million users in the state—making it harder for many to get needed care if the cuts go through.  Apple Valley News Now
