Good morning, Richland.

RSD Field Day is underway today in Kennewick, drawing over 500 young athletes after its first year saw about 200 competitors (highlighting the event's focus on kids’ abilities).

Richland was named the safest midsize city in Washington and 78th safest nationwide in a SmartAsset study of over 300 cities.

The study measured crime rates, motor vehicle fatalities, and natural disaster risk to show low violent and property crime rates in the community.

Local businesses, including banks+post offices+government offices, close on Memorial Day Monday, May 25, while grocery stores+Walmart+restaurants operate on holiday hours.

Drivers should plan ahead for busy roads this Memorial Day weekend.

Firefighters battled multiple fires on Wednesday, as dry, windy conditions raised fire risks, containing a 20-acre brush fire near Selah by 7 p.m. (no injuries were reported) and managing a riverbank blaze in Kennewick, while officials plan a prescribed burn at Yakima Training Center today.

Richland's Emerald of Siam, a long-standing Thai restaurant and live music venue, has launched an online fundraiser to cover a kitchen upgrade that requires relocating its hood system and updating fire safety, leading to a two-week closure once funding is complete (the fundraiser has already raised over $20K).
