Good morning, Richland.
Igloo Products Corp has expanded its recall for more than 1.1 million 90 Quart Flip and Tow Rolling Coolers sold from January 2019 to January 2025 after reports of injuries that include 26 cases of finger amputation and 50 other cases of fractures, cuts or lacerations.
Customers are advised to stop using the coolers and contact Igloo for a free replacement kit.
On Monday evening, a heavily intoxicated minivan driver speeding south on South Oak Street sideswiped another vehicle before plowing into an orchard—no one was injured—and was taken to Benton County Jail.
On Monday, Governor Ferguson signed a law that lets towns add a 0.1% sales tax to fund public safety—providing $100 million in grants for police hiring and supporting programs such as public defenders and domestic violence services; some legislators warned small communities might not raise enough money to make a significant impact.
Washington State Discover Pass prices will rise from $30 to $45 on October 1—this is the first increase since 2011 and follows legislation passed in April with Gov. Bob Ferguson signing the bill on May 17; the fee hike helps fund state parks run by the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
A new study on mice found that air pollution in the womb led to lasting changes in genes linked to lung function, making offspring more prone to asthma—researchers say this could mean current safe pollution levels might still affect health for generations.
A recent study found that patients who start physical therapy within a week of a concussion recover balance and reaction speeds faster than those who delay treatment—since waiting may cause the brain to rely too much on vision for balance.
The research involved over 200 subjects from the Portland area and shows that early therapy can reduce lingering concussion symptoms.
