- ➤ Officials investigated two Ben Franklin Transit bus crashes on May 14 near Edison Street and May 15 near Columbia Center Mall; one bus was hit by an unidentified vehicle while turning left and another was sideswiped, with passengers safe and damage minimal. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Firefighters responded Friday, May 15 to a fast-growing grass fire near east Schuster Road (close to Highway 397) that threatened nearby structures and required drivers to yield for emergency vehicles. Apple Valley News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tri-Cities Hospital District announced $20,000 in scholarships funding for social work students at WSU Tri-Cities on Friday, May 15; the grant (from the Paul G. and Mabel Richmond Endowment Fund) supports the university's new Bachelor of Social Work program as local demand for social workers grows. - ➤ WA law considers e-bikes with motors over 750-watt as motorcycles, so riders must equip them with lights, turn signals, a license plate and a valid permit—rules that affect local commuters both in urban and rural areas. KONA
- ➤ Richland officials are considering a proposal to expand Horn Rapids Solar, Storage & Training Project by adding 10 MW and expanding the site to 70 acres with a 25-year power purchase agreement starting summer 2027.
