COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grace Collective, a Pasco nonprofit, helps women learn job skills through training in pasta making, computer classes, and catering work so they can get living-wage jobs; the program serves 17 women with more on a waiting list and will launch a coffee shop in July (112 N. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Work is wrapping up on Ideal Dentistry’s new office at 1663 Fowler St., Richland, with a projected completion date of May 19. The new space will offer better highway access and a private parking lot — the growing practice will double its treatment room capacity and add new equipment and services.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • On May 15, the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries fined the agriculture company Pacific Agri Services $1.24 million + extra fines after an investigation showed it did not provide complete worker records for nearly 5,000 employees.   • Hyde Tap and Lounge opened in mid-April on Swift Boulevard and George Washington Way and has quickly filled with guests. Owners Patrick Canizal and Lissette Alvarez—along with industry veteran Stephen Glover—renovated the space formerly occupied by Dupus Boomers and Flight Tap & Table, held a ribbon cutting on May 2, and now serve upscale food and craft cocktails to 235 guests.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The groundbreaking ceremony for AC Hotels Marriott— a 162-room hotel connecting to the expanded Three Rivers Convention Center—is set for May 20 at 3:00 p.m. in Kennewick as the project is expected to boost local economic growth with funding from a bond that adds no extra taxes for residents.  NBC Tri-Cities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state Legislature approved $249.2 million in funding for capital and transportation projects that could bring major road updates near Richland Wye and improvements to community facilities such as colleges and health services—Gov. Bob Ferguson will decide by May 20 if these investments move forward. This budget supports projects ranging from highway improvements to community center renovations across the Tri-Cities.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study of 354 patients found that more than half of people who had a mini-stroke experienced fatigue for up to one year. Anxiety or depression before the mini-stroke was twice as common in those with lasting fatigue — the research was published in Neurology.  FOX41 Yakima

  • Argyle Southridge is a new 162-unit complex of apartments and live/work townhomes built by Cordillera, Inc. across from Southridge High School that will open its clubhouse and food truck pavilion on June 6 with first unit deliveries on June 20 and full completion by mid-November. The complex offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom units (rents start at $1,725 for one-bedrooms) and a leasing trailer open (Mon–Fri 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sun 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for interested residents.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
