  • Friends of Mid-Columbia Libraries—this nonprofit organization—will hold a Spring Book Sale on April 20 to raise funds for its programs.  NBC Tri-Cities

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The first Pitch Latino Tri-Cities event took place in March at Kennewick High School where seven local business owners pitched their ideas for cash prizes. Jose Chavez, owner of Little Plant Shop on The Parkway in Richland, won the top prize — he will use the money to fix his shop's back patio and may pitch again in Seattle in May.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund and TRIDEC are working out an agreement to transfer $1.7 million into a grant program for local public infrastructure after a legal dispute over a Kennewick loan. The boards say the change will let the community keep benefiting from state fees and will cut future litigation—steps that aim to support local development.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

FINANCE NEWS

  • Nearly 10 million federal student loan borrowers may see their credit scores drop by 150 points or more after missing payments when COVID relief ended on Sept. 30, which could make it harder to qualify for home loans. Borrowers are urged to review their accounts and catch up on payments — swift action may help lessen the credit impact — as lenders tighten their approval standards.  FOX41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Pasco postal facility is adding 96 electric next generation delivery vehicles and 16 gasoline-powered trucks as part of the ongoing upgrades under the Delivering for America plan—these new vehicles are designed for better safety and larger cargo space to help deliver for 261,100 customers. Officials said the improvements will boost efficiency and lower maintenance costs for mail carriers.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, SECOMM 911 dispatchers face severe staffing shortages that force extended shifts to answer every emergency call — local officials are revamping their online application process to recruit 12 new dispatchers.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Road construction on Dallas Road near I-82 begins this week and will last for a year as crews work on shoulders, intersections and utility installations—traffic will be limited to 25 mph. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes—delays are expected when entering or leaving West Richland.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
