COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Luigi, a 15 lb pup with a quirky walk, was rescued on I-182 near Queensgate exits and is now cleared for adoption from the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and ready to go home today for a $50 fee.  The KEY
  • Richland Library will host its annual book sale from April 22 to April 25 at 955 Northgate. Books will cost as low as $.50 for children’s, $1 for hardbacks, and $.25 for paperbacks (with a $5 bag sale on Saturday) to support library programs.  KONA
  • Jimmy "Woohoo" Butcher, a volunteer who lost his home last fall, moved into a new house built by neighbors in a community effort that raised over $24,000, with local businesses and Kennewick Police helping coordinate the surprise reveal.  Apple Valley News Now

  • A house fire at 1320 Sanford Ave displaced a resident and her three dogs and cat, who were safely moved to a neighbor’s yard while the American Red Cross works to secure temporary shelter and investigators examine the cause.  NBC Tri-Cities

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, Apr. 2, staff at Marcus Whitman Elementary quickly secured students indoors during recess when a teenage male was seen acting erratically on the sidewalk, and police later confirmed he had fled (no physical contact occurred).  KONA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Richland and Hanford high schools take part in AVID, a four-year college and career readiness program that offers hands-on learning at WSU Health Science Campus and a spring Day of Service with Richland Parks & Rec to prepare for life after high school.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Franklin County Fire District 3 bought a nearly $10,000 drone using a $5,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources to boost firefighter safety ahead of the summer fire season. It will be used for fast fire assessment and search+rescue operations.  KEPR
