Good morning, Richland. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 1st of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Richland Public Library is offering free spring break activities for all ages — including an art lab, salmon sessions with W.S.U. student teachers, and a movie day with face painting until Saturday. These events let local families explore new hobbies, and while a library card is not needed — it also unlocks access to books, DVDs, and board games.  KEPR
  • Families and community members are invited to attend the Connecting Families event on April 9 at The Arc of Tri-Cities at 1455 Fowler St. Hosted by Voices for Disability Advocacy, the event will run (5:30 to 7:00 p.m.) and offer Spanish translation to explain autism differences and share support strategies.  FOX41 Yakima

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Richland firefighters put out a house fire on Monday, March 31 in the 1800 block of Williams Blvd—crews stopped the flames in 15 minutes after a family of five left, leaving the house not livable while the cause is under investigation and no one was hurt.  NBC Tri-Cities

CULTURE NEWS

  • Washington State University is asking for volunteers for a red wine sensory panel at its Tri-Cities campus (the program runs for seven weeks starting April 14th at the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates WSU Wine Science Center) and trains participants to identify wine aromas and tastes. Volunteers must be over 21 and will join three weekly group sessions lasting 60 to 90 minutes, followed by four weeks of 40-minute individual sessions (snacks are provided after each session).  FOX41 Yakima

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study found that more people with type 1 diabetes are using GLP-1 drugs—like Ozempic—for weight loss and to manage obesity. The drugs are not approved for type 1 diabetes and experts warned that they may increase the risk of low blood sugar.  FOX41 Yakima
  • A study found that women’s breasts shrank by 19% in one year and over 26% in five years after breast-conserving surgery and radiation, with larger breasts shrinking nearly 30% — a result that may help doctors plan reconstructive procedures. The research published March 31 suggests that treatment can affect long-term breast symmetry.  FOX41 Yakima

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Simply Soulful Café offers comfort food favorites like fried chicken dinner, mac 'n' cheese, and oxtail with gravy over rice at 2321 Jackson Street (corner of 23rd & Jackson).
