COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The West Richland Police Department partners with the West Richland Community Care Foundation and Meals on Wheels to hold a pet food drive in honor of therapy K9 Polar’s 4th birthday, with donations going to senior pet owners in need. The drive will include a competition between Enterprise and Libby middle schools starting April 9 until April 29, with the winner announced on April 30—National Therapy Animal Day.  NBC Tri-Cities

  • Arlene’s Flowers and Gifts, a local shop that once did not serve a gay couple (a case that made the news), is closing soon. Owner Kim Solheim, who bought the shop in Spring to make it more friendly and now offers a 30% cash discount (a sign of new plans), said the store will close on April 1.  NBC Tri-Cities

  • Richland City Council is expected to approve a contract on April 1 for a project at the Richland Public Library that will create a new outdoor children's area with an amphitheater, sidewalks, fencing, and seating—fulfilling a goal in the library’s 2023-2033 Strategic Plan. Vincent Brothers LLP submitted the lowest bid of $410,342.75 for the contract—according to the city’s bid report.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • On March 29th, the City of Richland recognized seven top employees for their outstanding contributions in 2024 — awarding the GEM Award to five employees and honoring a Culture Champion and an Impact Player of the Year. Kaylee Bunch, Rhett Zufelt, Krysten Mabe, Chris Mason, Damon Jansen, Tommy Garcia, and Julie Piper received the honors through the city's annual awards program.  FOX41 Yakima
