COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This spring local farmers markets will offer fresh produce, crafts, and live music—Pasco Market will run every Saturday from May at Peanuts Park, Richland Market will be held every Friday from June at the local roundabout, and Downtown Kennewick Market will open Thursday through Sunday with its opening night on June 6.  KFLD

CRIME NEWS

  • Over the weekend, Richland Police conducted emphasis patrols at four trouble spots—Keene Road, the State Route 240 Interchange, Columbia Park Trail and George Washington Way—and stopped 74 drivers while arresting 3 for charges linked to speeding and reckless driving under a state traffic safety initiative.  KONA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Multi-platinum rock band Daughtry will perform at the Benton Franklin Fair at 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 20 as part of the Hayden Homes Summer Concert Series + reserved seating tickets from $30 to $60 will go on sale on March 21 at 8 a.m. + the fair will run from Aug. 19 to 23.  FOX41 Yakima

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A substitute teacher was barred from teaching at Richland High School on March 12th after an investigation determined that behavior inconsistent with district policy—including online posts alleging Nazi salutes—had occurred, and district officials said they acted promptly to address the issue.  KEPR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington State Department of Transportation says drivers must remove studded tires by the end of Monday, March 31 to avoid a potential fine of $137—studded tires are allowed only from November 1 to March 31 with no waivers given. Automotive centers are expected to be busy the final week of March as drivers are urged to switch to non-stud winter tire options to protect the roads.  KFLD

HEALTH NEWS

  • DermaHealth Dermatology and Dermasurgery in Richland will offer free skin cancer screenings on March 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its clinic (1295 Fowler St., Suite 102) to detect skin cancer early; appointments are recommended by calling (509-783-2004).  FOX41 Yakima
  • Seabear Smokehouse—based in Anacortes—issued a voluntary recall of its Smoked Salmon Chowder and Alehouse Clam Chowder sold from October 1 to March 14 due to a packaging defect that may allow botulism-causing bacteria to grow. Consumers are urged to dispose of these products immediately to avoid a serious health risk.  KFLD
