BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant Air announced Jan. 13 its acquisition of Sun Country Airlines for $1.5 billion, a move aimed at expanding its international travel network while keeping fares affordable. Although the combined airlines will develop one of the most adaptable industry models, travelers see no immediate changes to their flights.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Researchers at Washington State University and the Prosser Research Extension Center developed a low-cost robotic arm using a 2-foot inflatable fabric limb to pick apples safely near workers, easing seasonal labor shortages in orchards. They will refine its speed and expand its use to tasks like pruning and spraying.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Washington State Parks is hiring Park Aides to work at state parks this year; applicants will help with tasks like registering campers, cleaning facilities, and providing visitor information. Candidates must pass a fingerprint background investigation (positions are available statewide).  KFLD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kennewick, Richland and Grandview school districts will ask voters to pass replacement levies on Feb. 10 to continue funding education and tech programs. Voter pamphlets have been mailed and district websites list tax details and community input sessions.  KONA

  • Spring & Mulberry has recalled its Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar in Washington due to possible salmonella contamination. The recalled product with lot #025255, sold online and at select retailers since Sept. 15, 2025, is being pulled from shelves + no illnesses have been reported.  KFLD
