  • Columbia Point Marina is closed for repairs today as erosion damaged its viewing platform — the city plans to reopen the path when spring brings warmer days.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Dog Haus Biergarten in Kennewick will donate 25% of Monday's earnings when customers mention Doug Tallman or Amethyst Creamery as a sign of community support for the creamery owner.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Doug Tallman of Amethyst Creamery faced new treatment infections after years of setbacks, including his wife's passing and his own serious diagnoses. Dog Haus Biergarten held a fundraiser on Monday, Jan. 5 at its Pasco location, donating 25% of sales only if donations were directed to his recovery.  NBC Tri-Cities

  • A new study finds that Washington state's new business survival rate is only 41.1 percent, affected by high taxes, complex regulations, and rising costs. It tracked 22,326 new businesses since 2019 and paints a challenging picture for new local ventures.  KONA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Applications are open for Delta High School, the Tri-Cities only STEM high school in Pasco, for next year’s freshman class. With only 115 seats available, current 8th graders from Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland should apply soon.  KEPR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews have begun removing the century-old causeway linking Bateman Island to the mainland as part of a $13.2 million project aimed at restoring natural water flow and improving salmon habitat. The U.S. Army Corps, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife + Yakama Nation grants fund the work in the Yakima Delta.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hanford contractors finished digging a new disposal area at the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility and will install an engineered liner in spring to protect groundwater, while Bechtel National installed steel beams for the Waste Treatment Plant roof so that systems for stabilizing high-level waste can be added.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
